Choralation A Cappella performed their 10th Anniversary Concert in a delightful afternoon show featuring an eclectic collection of songs, uniquely arranged for a cappella harmonics. Works by Pentatonix, Moxy Fruvous, Anton Bruckner, The King’s Singers, Billy Joel and others were included. A Swahili rendition of The Lord’s Prayer and an Icelandic prayer rounded out the fascinating program.

It is inspiring to see a small group of performers – only nine members – sing in complex harmonics, and carry it off. Several of the pieces in this program were arranged by Choralation members, themselves, making the experience that much more original and noteworthy. The sound, with no microphones, was amazing, and the harmonics were true in virtually every note.

Choralation supports the St. James Music Academy with the proceeds from their concerts. The Academy introduces children in Canada’s lowest income neighbourhood to classical music, inspiring them to work and play with others to create joy and celebrate beauty. Choralation sings for the joy of it, and for the inspiration it brings to their audiences. They welcome new members, too, so if you are so inclined, you can contact them on their website at choralation.com or at facebook.com/Choralation.

Keep your eyes and ears open for notices about performances by this impressive group of singers. Their repertoire is extensive, covering all styles of music from classical and folk to jazz and pop. They are worth seeing.
