Aeriosa, Live at the 'Bolt gave us a futuristic look of what dancing might become: dancing in space, the way astronauts do it--no gravity, simply floating and gliding in space. For now, the four dancers used bungee ropes to do their numbers. But who knows? In the future, we might have a "no gravity" auditorium and we'll be seeing and floating like them.

The Vancouver-based Aeriosa Dance Society under the artistic directorship of Julia Taffe presented excerpts from Being, a futuristic dream of dancing in outer space. The audience was led to the Studio Theatre at the Shadbolt for this first part of the show which lasted approximately an hour.

The second half was presented at the Atrium section of the Shadbolt, and offered a glimpse into Taffe's new work Refugia. Performed by an all-female cast (Julia Carr, Lisa Gelley, Meghan Goodman, Kara Siu), the aerialists of Being travel on a luminous journey from earth into sky. These women demonstrate the beauty and power of working as a group.

They've presented their works which are a cross between rock-climbing and modern ballet, in Toronto's 58-storey L Tower building last year in October and here in Vancouver, at the Main Library at Georgia Street and the SFU Woodward's Atrium. At present, they are artists-in-residence at Shadbolt and will be offering workshops there.
