I decided to go down the day before the opening to have a more in-depth meeting with Patrick Hughes and that I did. He is as charming as his work. You cannot walk by one of Hughes’ works without being off balanced by the geometric visual play that takes place. His works move with you and you begin to walk back and forth, and then bend until you are almost kneeling and then you bounce back up to standing position. Please! Unless you experience his work do not tell me that you won’t be doing this when you view his works at the Winsor Gallery. His work is 3-dimensional, surrealistic artwork that is wizardry at its best. It is a refreshing style of art to see and it truly belongs to Hughes and to none else. 3-dimensional art on wood project from the walls with art work on all sides of these pyramid shapes. It is an ingenious presentation of perspective and shadows which make the art virtually move. Hughes has been doing these Perspectivariations for four decades and is truly an illusionist in his work. This is truly an exhibition not to be missed.
