I was pleasantly surprised by this witty, fast-paced and original snapshot of present-day society. I came expecting only silly humour, but was stunned by the powerful musical performances. The cast should really come out with a CD of their show.

I especially enjoyed a clever rendition of Chicago’s Cell Block Tango. Another highlight came in a number toward the end of the production when all cast members began playing random instruments…or themselves. Craigslist Cantata is worth attending if only to witness the heart-breaking tale of a lonely woman attempting to give away her deceased cat’s hat collection, or the slightly disturbing tale of a lonely man seeking a woman to come sit in a bathtub of noodles.

The production is ultimately about our desire to feel connected in a society that, with the creation of the internet, is becoming increasingly impersonal. The “missed connections” segment of the show was especially poignant, and almost made me want to start contributing to the section regularly to show all the disconnected people out there that someone did notice them today.

I have come across my fair share of unusual postings, but never considered that they each come with an equally unusual back story. The audience adored Craigslist Canata, and was especially delighted with the local references. The cast received two well-deserved standing ovations.

Craigslist Cantata is a must-see. One thing is for certain…I will never look at a craigslist ad the same way again…
