The much anticipated KIDD PIVOT performance of Revisor was sensational.

The full length 90 minute virtuoso of dance was created by Jonathon Young, writer as well, and Crystal Pite who served also as choreographer and director. Music was composed by the talented trio of Owen Belton, Alessando Juliani and Meg Roe.

Wearing multiple artistic hats seems to be natural for Pite, who has emerged as one of Canada’s and Europe’s most energetic and daring dance choreographers.

Revisor is evocative of a new genre that merges modern dance with theatre, perhaps Playdance is a fitting description. The energetic dancers, Renee Sigouin, Doug Letheren, Jermaine Spivey, Rene Narumi, Ella Rothschild, Brandon Alley, Jennifer Florentino and Gregory Lau were superb and exciting to watch. It is a fast paced dance with precision and rapid movements throughout that the dancers projected incredibly. The addition of witty narration to the story added an extra dimension of humour and at times drama.

The full house audience provided a lengthy standing ovation after the performance. A long time Vancouver dance afficionado in the audience this evening was heard saying with some delight, “ With Revisor, Pite has raised the bar and reset expectations for the Vancouver dance audience”.

It was a pleasure to catch up with Rakeem Hardy, a Revisor dancer, who will join the European leg of the tour. “I will perform in Paris, Lisbon, Germany, Sweden and Madrid, “ remarked Hardy with enthusiasm. Hardy, originally from Toronto, received a BFA from New York and is launching his professional dance career with KIDD PIVOT.

Hardy is excited to join the Revisor ensemble and has fulsome praise for Pite.“It is absolutely incredible working with Crystal. She creates a beautiful environment. It is a pleasure to be in the company which has a high scale of dance.“

Many have commented that Pite brings a European style to the Canadian dance scene and audience reaction affirms that Pite has earned a place of high artistic honor.
